Your Sun, Moon and Rising: What the Big Three Actually Mean

Most people know their Sun sign. Almost nobody knows the other two — and those are the ones that explain the parts of yourself your Sun sign keeps quiet about.

The Big Three, in one sentence each

Sun is what you are becoming. It is the sign most people mean when they say “I’m a Gemini” — your core self, the thing you are here to express.
Moon is how you feel when nobody is watching. Emotional weather, comfort, instinct, what you need in private.
Rising (or Ascendant) is the door you walk through. The first impression, the way you meet a room before you have decided how you feel about it.

Why they so often disagree

A Leo Sun with a Pisces Moon and a Capricorn Rising is not a contradiction. It is a person who wants to be seen, feels everything privately, and shows up composed. Most of the tension people feel about their own chart is simply three different instruments reporting on the same life.

This is also why a bracelet built only around your Sun sign can feel slightly off. The Sun is the headline. The Moon and Rising are the paragraph underneath it.

Why your birth time matters more than your birth date

The Sun moves about one degree per day, so your birth date is enough to place it. The Moon changes sign roughly every two and a half days, so the date is usually — but not always — enough.

The Rising sign changes every two hours. That means your birth time, not your birth date, decides it. If you do not know your birth time, most charts will still give you the Sun and a probable Moon; the Rising is the piece that has to be marked as unknown.

If you can find your birth certificate, it is usually printed there. If you cannot, a reading without a Rising sign is still a real reading — it is just shorter.

How to find yours

You need three things: a birth date, a birth time and a birth city. Our free birth chart reading takes all three, calculates the chart, and then shows your Sun, Moon and Rising with the bracelet we would pair with each.

Nothing is stored and nothing is required to buy: you can also shop the Zodiac series directly if you already know your sign.

What we do with the result

Each sign in our Zodiac series is built from crystals traditionally associated with it — citrine and clear quartz for Gemini, obsidian and garnet for Scorpio, and so on. The reading simply points you to the right strand, and then you choose the bead set you want closest to your wrist: Love, Abundance or Protection.

If you would rather build something from your whole chart — Sun, Moon and Rising together — that is what our bespoke commission is for.
